An excerpt from On Treason’s Trail- a fantasy novella.
Dogs howled and cats screeched. Gusting wind sent roofing thatch whirling through the air. Glason crouched next to his nephew in the shadows of a recessed doorway, cloak tucked close against the chill. The street lay silent beneath the light of the moon. Moisture-laden air dampened his clothes and heralded an approaching storm.
Glason gripped his nephew’s shoulder and hissed, “There, Flynn. Those are the Chorkan hire-swords Markan said helped kill Bennie.” He pointed toward a group of five men swaggering down the street. Wind flapped their cloaks, revealing swords prominent on their hips.
