Kaserie_sample_croppedThank you for stopping by. Kaserie is an eighteen year old Kalieri who was enslaved by the enemy (the Halurdow) when she was age ten and they conquered her home city of Azraelis. During that battle she watched her mother killed and believes her father died also. She is kept isolated from all others except while performing her duties as a slave at an Halurdow run tavern/inn.The previous excerpt can be found here. Pain throbbed in her leg and ear. She clamped her jaws tight, and kept her head lowered while edging around Cook’s helpers to the barrel. Kaserie sloshed the remaining water from the buckets inside. Cook had used more water than usual this morning. It would take at least ten more trips to fill the barrel.

By the time Kaserie had stowed the dripping mop from cleaning up the spilled water, gained splinters in her fingers from the wood, and made eleven trips to the well, the smell of baked bread and luncheon’s stew filled the room. Kaserie’s stomach growled. Cook glared at her, but after glancing at the stacked wood, dry floor, and the full water-barrel, she handed Kaserie a sliver of cheese on a crust of bread and nodded toward the corner. She would wait there until grumpy Cook assigned her other tasks.

  1. Enjoyed this very much, clearly depicted the drudgery she endures and how hard she works. Glad the Cook relented and gave her something to eat – terrific snippet!
