03/24 – Weekend Writing Warriors

An excerpt from Awakening [renamed The Sword of Isyndral] – a wip fantasy novella or novel (it hasn’t decided yet how long it wants to be):

path-in-the-woodsThey trudged along the path to their village of Clothien, not with the normal ground-eating stride of the Rangers, but with the slower steps of the exhausted. A mark passed before the party approached their village, and the curious who lined its pathways. The gossips, after seeing their bedraggled state, ran ahead. They would spread the word among the Njae faster than wildfire sped through a drought-plagued forest.

The villagers expected hunting parties to return on time, not several days late, injured and wrapped in blood-stained bandages. Their reaction straightened Tayril’s slumped shoulders. It could have been far worse. They should be glad we returned at all.

  1. This is wonderful! I was drawn right in, and I really want to know what happened to this hunting party! I’ll be back for more, Susan. Nice eight!

  2. Wow. What the heck happened while they were out? Great descriptions. I could see that Tayril may be exhausted, but he still has his pride – even if it took the reaction of the other townspeople to bring it out of him, again.

  3. Well, now I want to know what caused them to return injured and days late. Intriguing excerpt. I love that description, “ground-eating stride.”
